African-Descent Composers for Winds - Remembering El-Dabh and De Lerma

IMI Chamber Players continues its innovating programming with another concert of music by diverse African-Descent composers performed alongside familiar chamber music repertoire. November 18 concert will feature the Puerto Rican Suite - a collection of four dances from the two most prominent Puerto Rican composers of the 19th Century. Other works include Ulysses Kay's "Prelude for Unaccompanied Flute" and "Sonata for Bassoon and Piano," William Grant Still's "Incantation and Dance for Oboe and Piano," Fred Onovwerosuoke's arrangement of Halim El-Dabh's "Coma Dance," for clarinet, horn and Bassoon. Concert will also feature Stravinsky's "Three Pieces for Solo Clarinet," and a showcase of Leonard Bernstein's "Overture to Candide", in commemoration of the 100th Anniversary (2018) of Bernstein's birth.
